The composer Juraj Filas has passed away.

We regret to announce the death of Prof. Juraj Filas, a Czech composer of Slovak origin, on December 31, 2021. His stirring work Requiem Oratio Spei was performed at the Czech National Hall in New York City on September 9 and 10, 2021 to commemorate the sad twentieth anniversary of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.
 

"I am a composer writing classical music in the great European musical tradition. My musical priorities are melody, harmony, clear construction of form and communication in the spirit of the masters from the eighteenth to the first half of the twentieth century. My work is a continuation of their legacy," Juraj Filas described himself.

Juraj Filas was originally from Košice, Slovakia. He lived in Prague since 1985 and taught at the Music Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts. Born on March 5, 1955, he died on December 31, 2021. His work included more than 100 musical compositions. His music was performed in major concert halls around the world, including New York's Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center.
