Night with Andersen 2014

On Friday 4 April 2014 the event “A Night with Andersen” took place and Hans Christian Andersen´s fairy tales were read for children in several places around the Czech Republic. The event, which was held for the fourteenth time, aims to support children´s interest in reading. On the same day it also took place in the Czech School in Copenhagen and other countries such as Great Britain, France, Switzerland, Slovenia, USA, Australia and also in some African countries.

In 2013 the main organizers of the project, Hana Hanáčková and Miroslava Čápová from the children department of the B.B. Buchlovan Library in Uherské Hradiště, received the prestigious Hans Christian Andersen Award which has been given to organizations, institutions, as well as individuals for promoting and spreading the knowledge about the most important Danish writer Hans Christian Andersen around the world since 1996.

The Czech Embassy in Copenhagen is traditionally one of the partners of the project. On this occasion the Czech ambassador sent his greetings to the children who participated in the event.
