Premiere of Karafiát's Fireflies in Denmark

On 23 April 2015, the premiere of the children's musical The Fireflies based on the book of Jan Karafiát took place in the Danish town of Hadbjerg.

On the occasion of the release of the Danish translation of the book “Fireflies”, a musical play by the same name was performed. The libretto was reconstructed by prof. Lauren McConnell from Michigan University USA according to archive materials from the city of Theresienstadt where the musical play was performed seventy years ago by children deported during the Second World War. The performance, which included several Czech folk songs in English, was dedicated to the memory of the children from Theresienstadt.

Among them were the Danish Minister of Defence Nicolai Wammen, the Ambassador of the Czech Republic Jiří Brodský, the representative of the US Embassy in Denmark Emily Ronek, witnesses from Theresienstadt, Lauren McConnell from the United States and personalities from the political and cultural life of Jutland.
