Ambassador visited the Lolland region

On Wednesday 29 January 2014 the Czech ambassador in Denmark Jiří Brodský visited the southeastern coast of the Lolland region where the construction of the underwater road and railway tunnel crossing the Femern belt, which will connect Denmark with Germany, will begin in 2015.

At the meeting with Stig Winther, Managing Director of Femern Belt Development, they spoke about the current state of the preparations of the tunnel, which is now the biggest European investment project in transport infrastructure, and discussed the possibilities of Czech companies participating in it. The total cost of the project amounts to 5,5 billion Euro. They also talked about other infrastructure projects which are planned in southeastern Denmark – modernization of railway lines, building of bridges and terminals, new hospitals and penal institutions etc.

At the meeting with the ambassador, the mayors of the two key municipalities where the biggest economic development in connection with the tunnel is expected - Holger Rasmussen, Mayor of Lolland Municipality, and John Bræder, Mayor of Guldborgsund Municipality. They were also talking about the Czech company’s interest in the public Danish competitions and the way in which these will be announced. The Czech Embassy in Copenhagen will inform the Czech companies in good time.

The Czech Ambassador got acquainted with the activities of the important transport and logistic conglomerate Blue Water Shipping and the subsidiary company Femern Belt Services which offers cooperation to Czech companies in realizing the contracts of the project of Femern Belt. At the end of the trip ambassador Brodský went to the town of Nakskov where he paid a visit to Ms. Christine Krabbe who organizes traditional summer concerts of classical music together with her husband. They talked about the possibilities for Czech musicians to take part in one of the coming music seasons.
