“Amerika“ in Husets Biograf

The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Copenhagen and Husets Biograf cordially invite you to the Czech Film Night, which will take place Tuesday the 6th of June at 7:30 p.m. in Husets Biograf, Rådshusstræde 13, Copenhagen K.

On July 3, we celebrate Franz Kafka´s 145 years birthday anniversary. We´ve therefore chosen a psychological film for the June screening: "Amerika" (1994).

Debutant director Vladimír Michálek and cinematographer Martin Duba were inspired by Kafka's unfinished novel, first published by Max Brod under the title Amerika in 1927. The impetus for the film adaptation was also a successful dramatization, presented in Prague's Ypsilon Theater, from which some of the actors were also taken. The story of an insecure young man who finds himself in an unknown country and experiences unexpected fateful episodes in it is based on the classic theme of coming of age. In the New World, Karel Rossman settles in with the rich and principled uncle Jakob, but after meeting the femme fatale Klára, he finds himself at the bottom of society in the thrall of two gangsters.
