Baroque music concert in the Christian‘s Church

On the exceptional occasion of the opening of the so far second Czech Presidency of the Council of the EU, the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Copenhagen was organizing a baroque music concert. The concert took place on 2 July 2022 at 5 pm in the Christian‘s Church (Christians Kirke, Strandgade 1, 1401 Copenhagen) in the Christianshavn district of Copenhagen.

Musicians from the Czech-Danish-German project Sommerbarock with musical director Peter Spissky played jewels from the huge treasure trove of baroque music: works by G. F. Händel, Georg Österreich, Henry Purcell, Jan Dismas Zelenka and Antonín Reichenauer.

Sommerbarock is a Danish-German-Czech collaboration this year featuring the baroque castle Schloss Gottorf in Schleswig, Germany. Schloss Gottorf was a cultural center of European level for art, science, poetry and music. The Hofkapellmeister and composer Georg Österreich was an ardent collector of music and founded the Bokemeyer Sammlung, a vast collection of enormous value in music history of repertoire performed and/or written in Schloss Gottorf.

Part of the Sommerbarock project is to edit some of the many marvellous and still undiscovered music scores and make them accessible for modern musicians. These pieces will be part of the programme alongside Czech and other compositions of the Sommerbarock concerts in Schloss Gottorf, Christiansfeld/DK and in Christians Kirke in Copenhagen.

Sommerbarock consists of:

Petra and Aleš Ambrosi - baroque oboe

Ondřej Šindelář – baroque bassoon and research in early music

Peter Spišský – violin and music direction

Marcus Mohlin – cembalo

Anna Johannsen – cello

Giuly Johannsen – violin

Maria Johannsen – soprano
