Czech expatriates, members of the Czech-Danish Association and members of newly founded association vKodani.cz, together with representatives of Czech Airlines and Czech students gathered at the Ambassador´s residence.

After a short welcome speech, the Ambassador, Mr. Zdeněk Lyčka, introduced the upcoming cultural events organized or supported by the Embassy of the Czech Republic. First of all, a series of films by Jan Švankmajer, the famous Czech animator and film director, will be shown in the Danish Film Institute in October 2008. Two Czech films - Citizen Havel of Pavel Koutecký and Miroslav Janek and René of Helena Třeštíková - will be introduced on the Copenhagen International Documentary Film Festival. Furthermore, the Embassy of the Czech Republic will arrange a National Day reception on the 28^th October 2008. The tradition of showing of the Czech movies will continue in autumn 2008.

After refreshments the film Václav (2007) by film director Jiří Vejdělek was shown. The film, based on a real story, was inspired by one of the amnesty cases of prezident Václav Havel. Ivan Trojan and Jan Budař received the Czech Lion Prize. The film was also awarded two Golden Goblets on the International Film Festival in Shanghai in 2008.

Over 60 Czech expatriates and Czech students were present at the event and the Ambassadors of Austria, Romania and Serbia were invited as special guests.

On 26^th September 2008 the Department of East European Studies at the Aarhus University arranged showing of the film Václav in cooperation with the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Copenhagen.
