Czech short films at Café Teatret in Copenhagen

CaféTeatret in the center of Copenhagen in cooperation with FilmPlatform, the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Copenhagen, the Danish Film Institute and the Czech Film Center arranged a screening of contemporary short films from the Czech Republic on 21 November 2010.

As an introduction, the guests were informed about the FilmPlatform institution – the main organiser of the event. Afterwards, the curator Patricia Drati Rønde talked about the film selection and then gave the word to the Czech Ambassador Zdeněk Lyčka. He spoke of the current situation in the Czech Republic for film schools, short film productions and the most popular genres within short films.

Thereafter, three films by talented young Czech directors were shown: Nocturno (2009, 7 min.) by Martin Berger, I am bigger and better (2007, 17 min.) by Marek Duda and Bába (2008, 21 min.) by Zuzana Špidlová, always with a short introduction of the film and the director. The last mentioned film was awarded the Cinéfondation Grand Prize at the International Film Festival in Cannes in 2009.

After the film screenings, the guests discussed the situation of Czech and Danish cinematography while tasting Czech beer offered by the Czech Embassy.
