Working visit of the Czech Minister Karel Schwarzenberg in Denmark

Karel Schwarzenberg, the first Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic visited the Kingdom of Denmark 28-29 November 2011.

During his visit Karel Schwarzenberg met with the Danish Minister of Foreign Affairs Villy Søvndal, the Danish Minister for European Affairs Nicolai Wammen and the Chairman of the Danish Folketing Mogens Lykketoft.

K. Schwarzenberg had lunch with the Chairwoman of the European Affairs Committee of  Folketinget E. K. Hansen, former Minister of Foreign Affairs and current member of Folketinget L. Espersen and parliamentarian J. Joel.

K. Schwarzenberg also met informally with the former long-standing Danish Minister of Foreign Affairs, Uffe Ellemann-Jensen.

The working visit, which occured just before the upcoming Danish Presidency of  the Council of the European Union from 1 January 2012, was thematically fosused on the Danish Presidency’s priorities, the debt crisis and the situation in the eurozone including the expected suggestions for changes in the EU-Agreements, the European Neighbourhood Policy and Eastern Partnership, the process of extending the EU, the Arab Spring and the Peace process in the Middle East. K. Schwarzenberg also mentioned the important upcoming event in Czech-Danish historical relationship – in 2012 we will commemorate the 800th anniversary of the Czech princess, Přemysl Otakar’s daughter, and Danish queen Dagmar’s death.
