Aarhus – European Capital of Culture 2017

Danish city  of Aarhus is a European Capital of Culture in 2017. Official opening of the event took place on Saturday 21 January 2017. The Czech Ambassador to Denmark Jiří Brodský and representatives of Czech city Pilsen, which held the title in 2015, were present at the opening.

Aarhus and the 18 other municipalities in Central Denmark Region celebrate the year as European Capital of Culture in 2017. Visitors can look forward to the folk traditions and the newest that culture can deliver in art, theatre, dance, music, literature and artisanal practices such as gastronomy, architecture and design.

Czech choreographer Věra Ondrašíková with her performance Guide will participate in the festival "Aerowaves - Spring Forward", which will take place at the end of April as a part of the Aarhus 2017's culture programme. Her performance succeeded amongst more than 500 other competitors. It is a multimedia production, which won an Audience Award at the last Czech Dance Platform. The main performer Jaro Ondruš has been awarded a Dancer of the year by the international jury and the creative team won the prize for the lighting design.
