"Old Man and the World" in Husets Biograf

On Tuesday 26 February 2019, the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Copenhagen and Husets Biograf arranged another film night. For the February screening we have chosen a documentary Old Man and the World (2014) by director Petr Horký. The film was screened on occasion of this year's 100th birthday of famous Czech traveller Miroslav Zikmund.

A documentary Old Man and the World brings a unique perspective to the turbulent history of 20th century throughout the eyes of a man, who travelled the whole world. He was conceived during the Habsburg era and born five months after the establishment of the First Czechoslovak republic. He survived the Second World War and has experienced the rise of communism and also its fall. He was labelled as an extremely dangerous person by the Czechoslovak secret police. He was filming in Africa when the colonial system collapsed. He met kings and presidents, Yuri Gagarin, Edmund Hillary and many others. He experienced the introduction of democracy and capitalism. The film tells a story of the 20th century through the man who experienced it.
