Project of the Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation and Cell Therapy Center

On 12 February 2020, the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Damascus signed a contract with the Pediatric Hospital in Damascus concerning the project “Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation and Cell Therapy Center” for the purchase of specialized computer software for the Center that operates within the hospital. The contract was signed at the Ministry of Higher Education, where the hospital belongs.

The project, which will enable the purchase of sophisticated software, will provide the Center with the possibility to work systematically with samples of pediatric patients affected by leukemia and cancerous tumors. Thanks to this software, the Center can also link to an international database of scientific data and scientific results in the medical field, which will also make a significant contribution to cancer research in pediatric patients in Syria. The software is supplied by the Czech company Steiner Ltd.

This humanitarian aid was provided in the framework of a tied financial donation in Syria, which is being realized as part of the implementation of the governmental program “Provision of Humanitarian, Development and Reconstruction Assistance to Syria in 2020-2021”. The Czech Republic contributed more than 4.5 million CZK to this highly specialized and necessary software.

The realization of these tied financial donations allow Czech businessmen to create an export opportunity on the difficult, yet very potentially interesting Syrian market and, thanks to this new humanitarian and development tool, to more easily establish business relations with Syrian partners. Czech exporters can thus rely on the positive reference already obtained in their other business and business activities.
