U.S. Interests Section

Effective February 6, 2012, the U.S. Embassy has suspended operations and is not open for normal consular services. Neither U.S. passports nor visas to the United States will be issued in Damascus. 

For emergency assistance, U.S. citizens should contact the U.S. Interests Section via telephone at +962-6-5906500 or e-mail damascus.usis@mzv.gov.cz. 

 

Information for U.S. Citizens in Syria

The Government of the Czech Republic serves as the protecting power for U.S. interests in Syria. The United States continues to warn U.S. citizens against travel to Syria and recommends that U.S. citizens remaining in Syria depart immediately.

U.S. citizens in Syria who are in need of emergency assistance should call 0969-333644. Callers outside Syria should dial +963-969-333644. Callers in the United States and Canada may dial the toll free number 1-888-407-4747. Callers outside the United States and Canada may dial 1-202-501-4444. Please direct inquiries regarding U.S. citizens in Syria to SyriaEmergencyUSC@state.gov.

The range of consular services the Czech Republic provides to U.S. citizens is extremely limited (to include accepting applications for U.S. passports and U.S. Consular Reports of Birth Abroad, as well providing as notarial services).  U.S. citizens in Syria who seek consular services should contact the U.S. Interests Section of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Damascus at damascus.usis@mzv.gov.cz.

U.S. citizens in Syria who are in need of emergency assistance, and are unable to reach the U.S. Interests Section of the Embassy of the Czech Republic or must make contact outside business hours, should contact the U.S. Embassy in Amman, Jordan:
