The impressive and inspiring Czech project about Ireland “A Woman’s Work”

The cultural programme marking the 70th anniversary of Czech-Irish diplomatic relations continued on 8 March 2017 at Dublin Castle as Beta Bajgartová presented her project titled "A Woman's Work".

The second event of the culture programme marking the 70th anniversary of Czech-Irish diplomatic relations, prepared by the Embassy, was the project "A Woman's Work" by Beta Bajgartová. The Czech journalist turned freelance photographer who has been living in Dublin since 2004, has created an impressive collection of 53 portraits of women working in Ireland in predominantly male oriented areas. The photographs were accompanied by short statements of each woman and by captions from Irish screenwriter Jennifer Davidson, all together creating an impressive and immensely inspiring 120-page large-format book. Thanks to an online collection and sponsorship from Ireland (specifically Accreate, the RTÉ media company and the Dublin Bus transport company), Bajgartová delivered it at her own expense, with all proceeds going to Irish NGOs that aim at assisting women.

The book titled "A Woman's Work" was launched by Tánaiste and Minister of Justice and Equality Frances Fitzgerald on the evening of 8 March 8 2017 – International Women´s Day. The event, hosted by the Czech Embassy and Dublin Castle and held in the Printworks Conference Centre, allowed guests to view a selection of the photographic portraits and to meet many of the women presented in the book. It drew considerable public interest and enjoyed extensive participation of celebrities in the political and cultural life of Ireland.

The official part of the event saw short speeches by the author of the project Beta Bajgartová, by the first Professor of neurology in Ireland Orla Hardiman on behalf of the women included in the book - project, by Dublin Castle General Manager Mary Heffernan and Ambassador Hana Mottlová.
