Bohemia and Moravia under Charles IV - Promoting tourism to the Czech Republic

On 10 March 2016 the Czech Embassy in Dublin hosted a successful event promoting tourism to the Czech Republic on the occasion of the 700th anniversary of the birth of King Charles IV.

The event, hosted by the Embassy of the Czech Republic and sponsored by CzechTourism, featured the London director of the CzechTourism office Katarina Hobbs giving Irish media representatives an overview of major historical landmarks in the Czech Republic which have a strong connection to the country’s most iconic ruler, Charles IV. In addition, a major programme of festivals and celebratory events taking place in the Czech Republic throughout 2016 to mark the anniversary year was outlined to guests.

Those attending were treated to a presentation about monuments in Prague and the Czech regions of Bohemia and Moravia which relate directly to Charles IV, as well as learning some interesting facts about his life. Acclaimed Irish historian Turtle Bunbury also highlighted the connections between Charles IV’s ancestral family the House of Luxembourg and the Irish nation.

Following the evening’s official presentations guests from the media and Irish travel industry had an opportunity to socialise and network while also enjoying a selection of Czech beer and Moravian wine.
