Success of Czech Start-ups at the Visegrad Countries event in Dublin

The Hungarian Embassy in Ireland, currently holding the presidency of the Visegrad Group (V4), and in association with the Embassies of the Czech Republic, Poland and Slovakia, held an event where start-ups from these countries were presented in the Dublin Guiness Enterprise Centre. 20 start-ups operating in Ireland or based in the V4 countries took part along with a special guest start-up specialising in wine imports from Georgia.

The Czech Republic was represented by five start-ups, of which four were established in Ireland by long-living Czech citizens and one in the Czech Republic.

  • Oblekon (www.oblekon.cz), based in Prague, offers online ordering of custom shirts and suits not only caught the attention of guests due to the high quality and fashionable materials, but also received several orders on the day with the promise for future co-operation.
  • The design company of SignOnTime (www.signontime.ie) from Creowen, Co. Wicklow, attracted the attention of numerous guests as well as of the Czech Embassy which led to a provisional proposal for a direct partnership.
  • Roth’s Bakery (www.facebook.com/rothsbakery) based in Dublin, is producing and distributing bread and other baked goods among restaurants and other clients across Dublin including the Czech Embassy.
  • Shamrock Escargots (www.shamrockescargots.com) is a snail farm based in Ballycowan, Co. Kildare, which is active on the Irish market with current plans of expansion into the USA. In the near future, it will add a selection of syrups to its product portfolio.
  • The AXA Dogs K9 (www.facebook.com/axadogs) start-up is located in Boyle, Co. Roscommon and presents the longstanding Czech tradition of dog training to Ireland. It is currently working on expanding its clientele to not only private but also professional and commercial dog owners.

The event was officially opened by the Irish Minister of State for Trade, Employment and Business, Pat Breen. Then, representatives of the 20 start-ups gave short “elevator pitch” presentations outlining their core business ideas and suitability for investment along with answering any questions that the audience had. Later on, the attendees had the chance to meet directly with the start-up representatives at their individual stands where they could learn more about their products or services and perhaps discuss potential future co-operation.

The Czech companies, which attracted significant attention from the attendees, were able to gain valuable contacts that have the potential to lead to future co-operation with Irish partners.
