Proton Therapy Center Prague seminar in Dublin

On March 14, 2019, the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Dublin and the Proton Therapy Center Prague (PTC) organized a seminar on proton cancer treatment. The event, hosted at the Embassy, was the first of its kind first in Ireland, and was met with great interest from the Irish professional and general public. The Embassy also took advantage of this promotional event to inform about health tourism, Czech spas and health facilities, as well as to present other events planned for this year within the framework of economic diplomacy, which supports the activities of Czech companies in Ireland.

The aim of the seminar was to present the successes of the Proton Therapy Center in Prague in the treatment of cancer, establish it as an option for Irish patients and building contacts with Irish hospitals and health insurance companies.

Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Ireland, Mr. Petr Kynštetr appreciated the good cooperation of the Embassy and the Proton Therapy Center in Prague. He pointed out the fruitful cooperation with other Czech companies in their activities on the Irish market.

Dr. Silvia Sláviková and Dr. Jiří Kubeš introduced the proton treatment, which is getting more and more recognition. The Proton Therapy Center in Prague ranks among the few similar high-end facilities in the world and achieves excellent results in the treatment of specific cancers, which is highly appreciated by the patients themselves. The center, thanks to its high efficiency and success, offers the provided care at a lower price than similar facilities in the world. It should be noted that proton therapy is not intended for all cancers, so a highly skilled medical team must first determine suitability of the patient. All procedures, including the treatment itself, are performed in a short time, which also has a positive effect on the patients.

Kateřina Orltová, Head of PTC Client Service for foreign clients, informed about the services that the Center provides to patients from their first contact with their staff. Indeed, PTC offers patients all-round care and assistance not only before and during the treatment, but also long after it. For example, it organizes annual meetings and other events for its former patients to help them return to normal life.

The seminar participants particularly welcomed former Irish PTC patient Daniel McGuinness, who spoke about his positive personal experience of treating prostate cancer in Prague. Mr. McGuinness appreciated the professional treatment, attitude of the medical team and other center staff to patients and their needs. His knowledge of proton treatment was admirable, and he did so only after thoroughly studying this method.

Eoin Brennan, economic assistant of the Embassy, spoke about Czech spas and other health facilities (hotel Imperial Karlovy Vary, spa Belohrad, Marienbad Kur & Spa Hotels, spa Jachymov, sanatorium Klimkovice, spa Teplice, spa Darkov) as well as some events organized by the Embassy this year (Investment Seminar, Czech - Irish Conference on Green Buildings, Skoda Czech Fashion Show).

At the end of a pleasant evening, the seminar participants had the opportunity to talk to PTC staff and exchange views on proton treatment. Representatives of the Embassy of the Czech Republic and Proton Therapy Center have also agreed to continue their cooperation.
