Another successful renovation of a primary school in the province of Nineveh

The renovation of the third primary school in Nineveh province, Iraq, was implemented as a small local project of Czech development aid (MLP) for 2021 in the village of Derastun, Alqosh district. The first two schools were also renovated under the MLPs in 2019 and 2020.
 

On June 1, 2021, the Primary School for Girls in Derastun, Alqosh District, Nineveh Province was handed over after a complete renovation by the local NGO Falcons for Social Development as one of two small local development projects of Czech Development Cooperation (MLPs) in Iraq in 2021.

The non-governmental organization Falcons for Social Development did a very good job of renovating, in the same quality as in the 2020 project. The functionality of expansion joints, cracks and damaged walls, floors, windows and doors were repaired, unsatisfactory lighting was replaced by new ceilings with build-in lighting, toilets and washrooms were also renovated. The school was given a new coat of vivid colours and created a more pleasant and healthy environment.

The opening ceremony was attended by Mr. Mohammed Malhem Mustafa, Telkif District School Department Representative, Alqosh Mayor mrs Lara Zara Youseef, Derastun School Principal Mrs Salwa, Mr. Mahmood Hussain Mohammed School Supporter, Mr. Vasten Jalal Haji and Mr. Firas Shamoon of implementing NGO, teachers, representatives of parents' associations and also the best students.

Consul General Mr. Michal Svoboda presented the school principal with jumping ropes and soccer balls for school sporting activities, and the girls present appreciated the coloured facemasks and sweets. As part of the International Children's Day, a fun jumping rope elimination competition took place.

The Consulate General of the Czech Republic in Erbil plans to continue implement similar projects in the coming years. Positive feedback, including from children is a great motivation.
