Successful renovation of Neravai primary school in the village of Bozan

School renovation has been implemented by Consulate General of the Czech Republic in Erbil in cooperation with local non-governmental organization Falcons for social development as a small local development project (MLP) in 2020.

On May 21, 2020, after a comprehensive renovation, the Neravai Elementary School in the village of Bozan, Shikhan/Alqosh District in Ninive Province has been re-opened and is ready for new school year.

Under difficult local conditions and the ongoing measures of the Kurdish Regional Government against the spread of COVID19, the Consulate General of the Czech Republic in Erbil in cooperation with the local NGO Falcons for social development implemented the renovation as a small local project (MLP) of Czech development cooperation of 2020.

The opening ceremony supported Mr. Sardar Yahia-Mayor of Shikhan Distric on behalf of guvernor of Duhok Province Mr. Farhad Ameen Atrushi,   Mrs Lara Zara Youseef-Mayor of Alkush, Mr. Fadhil Saaid Isa - Director of the Tilkaif District School Department, Mr. Sirwan Khezar Darwesh - Principal of Neravai School, Mr. Vasten Jalal Haji – Director of implementing NGO Falcons for Social Development, Mr. Firas Shamoon Haji construction consultant, teachers, representatives of parents' associations and also the best students.

Consul General Michal Svoboda presented the school principal soccer balls, book of selection of classic Czech folk fairy-tales, and pupils appreciated the sweets.

Before renovation, the technical condition of the school building was in a critical condition, its maintenance neglected for a long time due to lack of funds and possibility of closure of the school was a close reality. Statics of the building were corrupted; the leaking moisture of a malfunctioning rainwater drainage endangered the health of pupils and teachers, especially in winter season.

The NGO Falcons for social development did a very good job of renovating. The functionality of wall expansion joints has been restored, new rainwater drainage piping has been built, damaged walls, floors, windows and doors have been repaired, insufficient lighting has been replaced by new ceilings with lighting, toilets and washrooms were renovated. The school was given a new coat of vivid colors and created a more pleasant and healthy environment for 180 pupils from Bozan and the surrounding area.

The Consulate General of the Czech Republic in Erbil plans to continue similar projects in the coming years.
