2021 Czech National Day and 15th anniversary of Czechia in Kurdistan Region

This year's Czech National Day (28 October) was organized by the Consulate General of Czechia in Erbil with regards to the local COVID19 measures and because of more favourable September weather at the outdoor terrace of Erbil Divan Hotel on 28th September 2021.
 

In addition to the national holiday of the Czech Republic, the reason for the celebrations was also an important milestone not only in mutual relations of Czechia and Kurdistan Region, but also in foreign relations the Kurdistan Region - the 15th anniversary of the opening of liaison office of the Czech Embassy in Erbil.

The Embassy of Czechia in Baghdad opened its liaison office in the capital of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq in the presence of the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic J. Bašta and the Czech Ambassador P. Voznica on 1st May 2006.

The opening ceremony was from the Kurdistan side witnessed by Dr. Fuad Hussein (actual foreign minister of Iraq) representing Kurdistan Region President Masoud Barzani, Minister of Interior Karim Sinjari on behalf of Prime Minister of Kurdistan Regional Government Nechirvan Barzani. Other participants were Minister of Culture Sami Shoresh, Minister of Industry and Electricity Yonan Marqus Hanna, Minister of the Region Falah Mustafa Bakir and Erbil Governor Nawzad Hadi.

The opening of the Czech liaison office, the first foreign representation in Kurdistan Region, created an important bridge for the development of our relations and at the same time set an example to open more offices and later consulates general, as well as to open foreign representation offices of the Kurdish Regional Government abroad in the coming months and years.

The reception was held, for the second time (for the first time last year), in a limited "covid format", i.e. the guests were asked to comply with protective COVID measures and were seated at appropriate distancing, Cocktail refreshments and drinks were distributed to seated guests. This limited format did not allow us to invite all our contacts and friends, but we tried to satisfy the great interest of our guests to come as much as possible.

The main guest, the guest of honour, was Sheikh Jaafar Mustafa, Vice President of the Kurdistan Region. Also present were Kurdistan Parliament Vice-President Hemin Hawrami, President Nechirvan Barzani's Ministers / Special Advisers Falah Mustafa, Karim Sinjari, Nawzad Hadi, Head of Department of Foreign Relations Minister Safeen Dezayee, Finance and Economy Minister Awat Janab Noori, Peshmerga Minister Shoresh Ismail Abdulla, Minister of Justice Farsat Ahmad Abdullah, Kurdish Regional Government Spokesman Jotiar Adil, Erbil Governor Omed Khoshnaw, Suleimany Governor Dr. Haval Abubakir, Governor of Halabja Azad Tofiq, former governors, consuls general and heads of embassy offices, representatives of major political parties, prominent Kurdish and Czech businessmen, as well as representatives of the UPOL / Czech Academic City Erbil, representatives of the Erbil Office of Czech NGO People in Need and other guests.

In his speech, Minister Safeen Dezayee, Director of the Foreign Relations Department of the Kurdish Regional Government, thanked Czechia for its involvement in the Region, humanitarian aid and development cooperation. He particularly appreciated the tied financial  donations projects and other activities of the Consulate General contributing to the deepening of long-term friendships and mutual relations in various areas.  He also did not forget to thank Czechia for its role in the fight against the so-called Islamic State within the Global Coalition

An exhibition in the form of roll-ups on the topic "Czech Economy in Nutshell" was also presented during the reception.

During the reception program, the Czech music ensemble Bardolino performed and guests were able to win 15 anniversary prizes of the Consulate General of Czechia with products of Czech companies in the raffle. At the end, all guests received quality promotional items and materials.
