Comenius Museum and Mausoleum in Naarden

 Town of Naarden is of great importance to the Czech people. It is the place of last resting of one of the greatest Czech and European philosophers and pedagogues - Jan Amos Comenius (Jan Ámos Komenský).

Town of Naarden is of great importance to the Czech people. It is the place of last resting of one of the greatest Czech and European philosophers and pedagogues - Jan Amos Comenius (Jan Ámos Komenský), 1592-1670, also known as a Teacher of Nations.

His grave is located in a small Wallonian chapel transformed into a Comenius Mausoleum, a site precious to many visitors from the Czech Republic and from many other countries.

The life of Jan Amos Comenius and his work are shown in the Comenius Museum situated next to the Mausoleum. Comenius Museum is maintained by a Dutch foundation called Stichting Comenius Museum in cooperation with the Museum of Jan Amos Comenius in Uherský Brod in the Czech Republic (www.mjakub.cz/english/). On the occasion of the anniversary of birth of Jan Amos Comenius (28 March 1592) an annual commemoration is taking place in Naarden on 28 March. This commemorative act is organised by he Comenius Foundation (Stichting Comenius) and is known as Comenius Day in Naarden. Another platform for cooperation is the Czech-Dutch partnership of towns between Naarden and Uherský Brod as both towns are connected by the Comenius legacy, since Comenius was born nearby Uherský Brod.
