The Czech Minister of Culture Mr. Daniel Herman visits Naarden

The Czech Minister of Culture Mr. Daniel Herman visited Naarden on 2 April 2016 in the framework of his visit to the Netherlands (1 to 3 April 2016), at the invitation of the Museum of JA Comenius. He attended a day program to commemorate the anniversary of 424 years since the birth of Jan Amos Comenius. Solemn reminder of the birth anniversary of the great Czech thinker took place in Naarden where Comenius was buried. The ceremony is held annually on the so-called Comenius Dag.
 

The delegations from the Ministry of Culture and its allowance organizations - the Comenius Museum in Uherský Brod and the Moravian Museum were received at the old town hall in Naarden by the mayor of the municipality Gooise Meren Mrs. Albertine van Vliet-Kuiper. The Mausoleum of Comenius in Naarden later held a brief memorial ceremony of laying wreaths at the Tomb of Comenius. Minister Herman, along with members of the Czech delegation and the ambassadors of the Czech Republic and Slovakia, laid a wreath on the grave of J. A. Comenius to whom he paid tribute in a short speech. Ambassador Jana Reinišová handed over a symbolic first copy of the Dutch translation of a work by Comenius ´Labyrinth of the World and Paradise of the Heart´ to the Minister of Culture Mr. Herman. The book has  been translated thanks to the financial support of the Honorary Consul of the Czech Republic in Groningen, Mr. Albert-Jan Postma. Minister Daniel Herman also met for informal conversation with prof. Herman van Rompuy, the former Belgian Prime Minister and President of the European Council, this year's laureate of the Comenius Prize, at the Memorial of JA Comenius in Naarden .

Ambassadors of the Visegrad 4 along with representatives of municipality of Gooise Meren also laid wreaths at the statue of J.A. Comenius next to the Great Church (Grote Kerk) in the center of Naarden. Then the traditional cultural program was launched in the church for the general public with lectures (by prof. Leo Lucassen on the phenomenon of migration an by prof. Herman van Rompuy on the importance of integration efforts) and musical performances by young artists from the Visegrad countries. Altogether, this year's celebrations at the Great Church were attended by more than 700 guests.
