Establishment of Czechoslovakia 1918: Heritage and Consequences

On the occasion of the 100th Anniversary of Czechoslovakia the Czech and Slovak Embassy in The Hague organized seminar with the participation of Czech, Slovak and Dutch historians.
 

After short introduction speakers Ambassadors Jana Reinišová and Roman Buzek had shared their personal reflections and memories of former Czechoslovakia.

Firstly the Czech historian Mr. Ivan Šedivý (Director of Department of Czech History, Charles University, Prague) talked about the creation of Czechoslovakia and the dis-continuities with the Habsburg Empire. Secondly, the Slovak historian Mr. Adam Hudek (Senior Researcher, Institute of History, Slovak Academy of Sciences, Bratislava) spoked about the Slovak experience in Czechoslovakia and finally, Dutch historian Mr. Carlos Reijnen (Associate Professor East European Studies, University Amsterdam) underlined the image of Czechoslovakia as a democratic island in Central Europe. 

Discussion was moderated by Dutch historian and writer Mr. Filip Bloem.
