68: You Say You Want a Revolution

To mark the fiftieth anniversary of the 1968 events, the voice of ’68 comes alive in Amsterdam EYE’s film theatres from 26 April to 13 May. The programme devoted to Vietnam War, student protests in Paris or Czechoslovak Prague Spring includes films from the year 1968, films about ’68 as well as talk shows and debates.

Film Club The Joke

After several months of being on the road, the Czech Centre Rotterdam’s Film Club comes back to Rotterdam again. On 9th of May the Czech Centre Rotterdam will screen Czech film The Joke based on Milan Kundera’s novel. This year’s film clubs are in the sign of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Czechoslovak Republic. During the whole year you will be treated to the zenith of Czech and Czechoslovak cinematography. Each screened film will be prefaced by an introduction by a special guest. On 9th of May it is Jana Beranová who translated Kundera’s novel The Joke (De Grap) into Dutch.

Literature Night 2018: Leeuwarden and Amsterdam

The annual European Literature Night takes place in two Dutch cities this year: Amsterdam and Leeuwarden. On Tuesday 15th May it will be held in the Cultural Capital of Europe 2018 – Leeuwarden. Czech literature will be represented by one of the most popular Czech authors, Jaroslav Rudiš. In Leeuwarden there will be a special guest - Frisian writer Elmar Kuiper, whose poems have been translated into English, French, German and Portuguese. The next day, on Wednesday 16th May, the European Literature Night will traditionally take place in the Flemish Cultural Centre in Amsterdam. Just like in Leeuwarden, Czech literature will be represented by Jaroslav Rudiš here.
