The ceremonies on the anniversaries of international tribunals in The Hague

On 19 April the new permanent headquarters of the International Criminal Court was inaugurated in The Hague. Wednesday, 20 April, the celebration of 70 years of the International Court of Justice took place at the Peace Palace in The Hague .
 

The new headquarters of the International Criminal Court, built from 2011 by contributions from the signatory states to the Rome Statute, including the Czech Republic, in the aggregate amount of approximately EUR 206 million, is located in the Scheveningen neighborhood of The Hague. The Court in fact has been operating there since last December.

The ceremony commenced by the Dutch King Willem-Alexander´s  symbolic opening of the book with the Rome Statute (the founding treaty of the ICC) and short speeches, interspersed with musical inserts made by famous The Hague Residentie Orkestra and children's choir. The UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, the President of ICC Silvia Fernández de Gurmendi, the Dutch foreign Minister Bert Koenders, the mayor of the Hague Jozias van Aartsen and the President of the Coalition for the ICC, William Pace, also made their speeches. A joint declaration by members of the Informal Ministerial Network for the ICC - the foreign ministers of 31 countries including the Czech Republic was made to align themselves with the opening act. On behalf of the Czech Republic the inauguration was attended by Ambassador Jana Reinišová and director of the international law department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Petr Valek.

On Wednesday, 20 April  the celebration of 70 years of the International Court of Justice was held at the Peace Palace in The Hague in the presence of the Dutch King Willem-Alexander. The United Nations created the International Court of Justice in 1945 to adjudicate territorial and other disputes between sovereign states. The celebration had a more intimate character. It was attended by the resident ambassadors and several honorary guests including the UN Secretary General and the presidents of the courts and international organizations based in The Hague. The Czech Republic was represented by Ambassador Jana Reinišová.
