Day of International Criminal Justice

On 17 July 1998, the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court („ICC“) was adopted. The Day of International Criminal Justice commemorates this milestone – a reminder of the importance of the international criminal justice and fight against impunity.

Support for international criminal justice, especially the ICC, is an integral part of the Concept of the Czech Republic’s Foreign Policy. The ICC investigates and prosecutes individuals for the most serious crimes under international law (genocide, war crimes, crimes against humanity and the crime of aggression), based on the principle of complementarity.

The Czech Republic regularly provides voluntary contributions to the Trust Fund for Victims. The Czech judge Mr. Robert Fremr serves as a judge for the term 2012 – 2021 and currently as the Court’s First Vice-President.
