Judge Hrdličková Elected as President of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon

Judge Ivana Hrdličková was re-elected as president of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon on February 27, 2018. She was appointed as a judge of this tribunal in 2012 and was elected its president in 2015. The Czech MFA supports the tribunal by yearly voluntary contributions.

The Special Tribunal for Lebanon was established by the Security Council resolution and officially opened on March 1, 2009. The Tribunal has its seat in Leidschendam. Its primary mandate is to hold trials for the individuals accused of carrying out the attack on February 14, 2005 which killed the former prime minister of Lebanon Rafik Hariri and 22 other people. The Secretary-General extended the mandate of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon on March 1, 2018, for a period of additional three years.
