Foreigners stranded in Czechia because of state of emergency

Foreigners who stayed in the Czech Republic legally (based on a Schengen visa/visa-exemption regime, long-term visa or residence permit) at the time of declaration of the state of emergency, and were not able to leave the country for objective reasons, may continue to stay in the Czech territory until up to 60 days after the state of emergency is terminated (i.e. until July 17th, 2020), and their stay will be considered as legal. Some categories of visa holders will have their stay extended till September 16th, 2020.
 

A foreigner, whose Schengen visa or visa-exemption regime period have expired during the state of emergency in the Czech Republic, does not need to approach the Foreign Police Department for the extension of stay. Such foreigners will not be issued any visa extension stickers nor departure orders. Upon leaving the country, they will receive a stamp in their passports “Exceptional Situation COVID-19 Pandemic”, which will confirm the legality of their stay.


Extension of stay till September 16th, 2020

In accordance with the Decree of the Government of the Czech Republic no. 693 dated June, 22nd, 2020, holders of below stated types of visas will be extended their stay till September 16th, 2020, provided their employer extends the validity of their job agreement or closes a new one. :

  • - short-term visa for employment purpose,
  • - short-term visa for the purpose of seasonal works,
  • - long-term visa for the purpose of seasonal works,
  • - exceptional work visa.
