The Soul of Light
Painter Päivi Siren, from the beginning of her artistic career, follows strictly the chosen line of thought, which she systematically develops and deepens. Päivi is an artist who does not seek inspiration in fashionable arts but focuses only on light and color. She followes the expression of minimalism and the theory of the colors by Joseph Albert. She managed to find a sensitive and very personal approach to one of the major problems of painting.
In the paintings, the color represents the quality of light and the intensity of color shades in their multiplicity. Päivi begins by applying multiple lacquer layers of color to maintain the overall permeability of the layer. In the dark shades it is possible to see the grayish light of autumn, its density, also the winter and impenetrable light of the cosmos is present in her paintings. The surface of the painting will not allow the light to disappear; on the contrary, it draws it into itself according to its character. The spectator thus witnesses the process of the emergence of a new light phenomenon. A concentrated view is needed to see the raster of very thin lines that creates a grid on the surface of the painting. Viewer's view automatically focuses on the dense line raster and then on the whole painting again. The impression of the depth of the three-dimensionality is created, which gives the painting a meditative dimension.
The paintings of Päivi Siren reveal through the light the color between the dawn and the darkness, help us to look into the light of our environment. They even deepen our awareness of the essence of the matter in our world.
