Lecture for Students of Bohemistics at the Helsinki Univerzity

Embassy of the Czech Republic in Helsinki together with the Helsinki University organized on 24 September 2014 a lecture "Czech language in today´s media" for students and absolvents of bohemistics, pedagogues and translators. Mgr. Lucie Jílková, PhD. researcher of the Institute of the Czech Language of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic was as a guest.

The lectured focused on the language used in Czech public and private media. During last decades this language was going through significant changes and these changes were presented on examples from TV news, political discussions and talk shows. L. Jílková also informed about The DIALOG Corpus, an electronic corpus which has been gathering TV discussion programmes in the Institute of the Czech Language of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic since the end of 90´s of the 20th century. The Corpus is unique because besides the detailed transcriptions it contains also audio-visual records of each discussion programme.     

Mgr. Lucie Jílková, Ph. D., Institute of the Czech Language of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic

Researcher in the Department of Stylistics and Textlinguistics in the Institute of the Czech Language of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. She studied general linguistics and phonetics and Hungarian language and literature at the Faculty of Arts, Charles University in Prague, where she completed her PhD studies in 2009. Her specialization is sociolinguistics, stylistics, phonetics, electronic communication. Her articles are published in professional magazines and books, occasionally she writes scripts (e.g. for TV programme About Czech language). She is the author of the children´s book “Housenka na kdouloni“ which tells children interesting things about the Czech language by means of fairy-tales.
