Minister for Human Rights Jiří Dienstbier visited Finland

During 27 – 29 October 2015 Minister for Human Rights, Equal Opportunities and Legislation Mr Jiří Dienstbier visited Finland. On 27 and 28 October a five-member delegation led by Minister Dienstbier participated in the Youth Dialogue followed by OECD Public Governance Committee´s Ministerial meeting. The overarching topic of the OECD Ministerial meeting was inclusive growth. The last day of the visit (29 October) was devoted to bilateral negotiations with Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Justice Mrs Tiina Astola and Parliamentary Ombudsman Mr Petri Jääskeläinen. Before the departure of the delegation working lunch with the representatives of the Advisory Board on Romani Affairs was organized in the premises of the Finnish Parliament.

The main topics of bilateral negotiations were mechanisms for protection of human rights in Finland and the Czech Republic, protection of the rights of national minorities, human rights aspects of the current migration crisis in Europe and functioning of the Parliamentary Ombudsman Office in Finland. The working lunch with representatives of the Advisory Board on Romani Affairs focused on the situation of Romani minority in Finland and the Czech Republic.
