Visit of Minister of Industry and Trade Mr. Jan Mládek in Finland

Minister of Industry and Trade Mr. Jan Mládek visited Finland from 17 to 18 August. One of the main topics during his working visit was cooperation in nuclear energy including the issue of nuclear waste storage, the planned construction of the new nuclear power plant Hanhikivi 1 and the possibility of involvement of Czech companies in energy projects in Finland.

During the first day the delegation led by Deputy Minister Mr. Pavel Šolc visited the site of the future nuclear waste repository in Onkalo. Meetings with senior representatives of Finnish companies Fortum, TVO and Posiva and the representative of Eurajoki municipality (under which the nuclear power plant Olkiluoto and future repository falls) were held in the visitor center of the Olkiluoto nuclear power plant and Onkalo repository.

On 18 August Minister of Industry and Trade, Mr. Jan Mládek had meetings in Helsinki, which included a meeting with representatives of the energy company Fennovoima, visit of the VTT Technology Research Centre, discussions with the Director General of the Finpro agency and talks with the Finnish Minister of Employment and the Economy Olli Rehn.

The second part of the delegation led by Deputy Minister Mr. Šolc continued with further discussions with representatives of Fennovoima on 18 August, which were subsequently followed by negotiations with the Deputy Director General of the Ministry of Economy for nuclear energy, Mr Herkko Plit. The third part of the delegation was comprised of the Director of the Radioactive Waste Repository Authority (RAWRA) Mr. Jiří Slovak and three mayors of different municipalities in the Czech Republic. This part of the delegation had separate negotiations on 18 August with the highest representatives of Fortum and Posiva. During the negotiations an agreement on cooperation between Posiva and storage management authority RAWRA was reached.
