Baroque opera Gustav Vasa

The Helsinki Baroque Orchestra performs a unique Baroque opera Gustav Vasa, composed more than 200 years ago by the Czech composer Leopold Kozeluch. The performance will take place on March 3, 6 and 10, 2018, at the Concert Hall in Helsinki.

Koželuch’s only surviving opera Gustav Vasa is resurrected two centuries after the composer’s death! The Czech-born composer Leopold Koželuch was a significant competitor of Mozart, and among their contemporaries, even more acknowledged of these two.

Gustav Vasa explores the important event in the history of the Swedish nation: the battle between Sweden and Denmark in the beginning of the 16th century. Through creative video design, the ultra-modern concert hall of the Helsinki Music Centre will be transformed to a medieval battlefield.

The premiere takes place on Saturday 3rd March in Helsinki Music Centre. If you can't be there you will have two other chances to see the Gustav Vasa opera - on Tuesday 6th March or on Saturday 10th in the same place. The Czech soprano Martina Janková sings one ot the main roles.

The Czech Embassy in Helsinki and the Czech Center in Stockholm have financially supported the realization of the performances.
