Celebrations of the 30 Years of Freedom and Democracy

In connection with the anniversary of the Velvet revolution in the former Czechoslovakia in 1989 several events took place in Finland.
 

On 29., 30., 31.10. and on 4th, 6th and 7th November, the Embassy of Helsinki in cooperation with five other embassies (Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia and Romania) organized a film festival "30 Years of Freedom and Democracy". The Czech film Wisdom Teeth was screened on Wednesday, 6 November in the EC Representation. The festival was officially opened at the Czech Embassy on 24 October. Guests had the opportunity to watch 5 short films and taste drinks and food from 6 organizing countries. Jouni Järvinen of Helsinki University presented the events of 1989 in Europe and Jarmo Jääskeläinen, a former YLE correspondent, shared memories of his stay in Poland during the 1980s.
On Thursday, November 14, 2019, a reception was held at the Embassy in Helsinki, connected with the National Day of the Fight for Freedom and Democracy. Photo posters prepared by the Czech Centers and Ministry of Foreign Affairs were exhibited and other photos "The Moments of the Velvet Revolution" were screened during the evening.

Czech-Finnish association Bohemia organized a commemorative evening with film screening  to the 30th anniversary of 17th November 1989 in the Kallio library on Saturday 16th November 2019.

Finnish national radio Yle Radio 1 broadcasted a show on the 30th anniversary of the Velvet Revolution on Sunday 17 November.
