Lidice 2022 Awarding Ceremony

On February 22, 2022 the Consul General of the Czech Republic to Hong Kong Mrs. Klára Jurčová presented diplomas to the young Hong Kong artists who were awarded at the 50th Lidice International Children's Art Competition.

The International Children’s Exhibition of Fine Arts Lidice (ICEFA Lidice) was established in 1967 to commemorate the child victims from the Czech village of Lidice murdered by German Nazis, as well as all other children who have died in wars.

Although national initially, this exhibition became an international one in 1973 and since then it has become well known among children and teachers not only in our country but literally all over the world. In recent years, more than 25,000 very good works of art have come regularly by children not only from the Czech and Slovak republics but also from other 60-70 countries, including such distant ones as China, India, Japan, Kenya, Malaysia, Philippines, Sri Lanka or Zimbabwe.

Every year, the exhibition bears a unique theme chosen by the Lidice Memorial in cooperation with the UNESCO. In 2022, it was the 50th anniversary of the Convention Concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage. Czech Republic had also become the meeting place of world's museum professionals during the ICOM General Conference in Prague.

The 50th ICEFA Lidice was dedicated to the theme MUSEUM.

As usual the participation from Hong Kong was high as was the quality of the art work. Hong Kong children won 4 medals and 31 honourable mentions (names of the winners can be found here). Congratulations!
