Bilateral Relations

The Czech Republic has excellent bilateral relations with Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China and with Macao Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China highlighted by the official visits and economic and cultural activities.

The Consulate General of the Czech Republic in Hong Kong represents the Czech Government in Hong Kong SAR and Macao SAR

Hong Kong SAR and Macao SAR are represented in the Czech Republic by the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Prague

 

 

Bilateral Relations with Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China

The Czech Government supports Hong Kong's "high degree of autonomy" under Chinese sovereignty as provided for by the Sino-British Joint Declaration, Hong Kong's mini-constitution, the Basic Law, and in accordance with China's policy of observing "one country, two systems".

The Czech Republic´s policy toward Hong Kong is underpinned by its substantial commercial interests. Our excellent bilateral relations highlighted by the official visits and economic and cultural activities.

Recent Vists:

2013 January - Kamil Jankovský, Minister of the Regional Development of the Czech Republic visited Hong Kong SAR on January 30 - February 2, 2013. Minister Jankovský and his delegation met with the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development , Mr. Gregory So, Director General of the Hong Kong Tourism Board, Mrs. Bynthia leung and also with representatives of the majore travel agencies and airlines.

2011 June - Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, Professor K. C. Chan, visited Prague from 6 to 7 June, 2011. On 6 June, Mr. Chan signed on behalf of the Government of the HKSAR with the Czech Minister of Finance, Mr Miroslav Kalousek, The Agreement for the Avoidance of Double Taxation and the Prevention of Fiscal Evasion with Respect to Taxes on Income between Hong Kong SAR and the Czech Republic.

2009 September - Delegation of Legco visited Prague

2009 September - Jan Fischer, Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, visited Hong Kong SAR on 4-6 September, 2009. He was accompanied by several high ranking Czech Government officials and a business mission organized by the Czech Chamber of Commerce.I t was the first visit of the Czech Prime Minister in Hong Kong SAR since the establishment of the Czech Republic in 1993.

Recent Visits:

2013 February - Kamil Jankovský, Minister of the Regional development of the Czech Republic visited Macao SAR on February 1, 2013. Minister Jankovský and his delegation met with the Secretary of Economy and Finance of the Macao SAR, Mr. Francis Tam Pak Yuen and with the Director of the Macao Government Tourist Office, Mrs. Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes.

July 2010 - Ung Vai Meng, President of the Cultural Affairs Bureau of Macao SAR visited the Czech Republic with his delegation on July 2-10, 2010. The delegation consisted mainly of the film crew of the film drama "Diago" which was presented in its world premiere at the 45th International Film Festival in Karlovy Vary. Except for being an official guest at the Film Festival Mr. Ung also met with the Director of the Theatre Institute, Mrs. Pavla Petrová and other Czech cultural officials to discuss the exchanges in the theatre area between the Czech Republic and Macao SAR.
