Eurovillage 2019

The annual event to celebrate Europe Day was held at PNCA in Islamabad on Saturday, April 6, 2019. The event labelled "Eurovillage 2019" was co-organised by the Delegation of the European Union in Islamabad and EU member states represented in Pakistan. The Czech Republic was celebrating not only the Europe Day but also 15 years since its accession to the EU.

The Czech Republic has been taking part in the event regularly since its inception. This year, the Czech Republic participated in a bigger manner and to celebrate 15 years of its membership in the European Union, the Embassy has invited also a Czech funk-rock band "Tereza & Balage Band" to perform at the main stage in the evening.

Similarly to previous years, the Embassy of the Czech Republic has presented the country on its national stand with many prospects about the Czech Republic, its culture, tourist attractions, educational and trade opportunities. Different activities were prepared for children and adults alike. Whilst the youngest visitors of the stand could colour images with famous Czech fairy tale cartoon characters, the older children were searching paths for the Czech cartoon characters through tangled mazes. Anyone interested in could test their knowledge about the Czech Republic in a quiz.

The visitors were also taking selfies with the huge cut-out of the Prague’s historical astronomical clock. Outside the booth, both adults and children could try to score a goal in a hockey net with a goalie. Home-made fruit cakes and ginger breads were offered to the guests interested in trying a bit of the Czech cuisine.

The concert by Tereza & Balage Band has become a crowd-pulling attraction and was met with a huge success. Tereza Kopáčková, a professional singer and vocalist and frontwoman of the Balage Band, was accompanied by a guitar player Daniel Heřman and a drummer Pavel Plašil. The crowds attending the concert were dancing, waving and sometimes even joining Tereza in singing.

Eurovillage is not only an event to celebrate the Europe day, which falls on May 9, but also a way to bring Europe closer to Pakistan, to present European culture, art, sports, traditions and cuisine to the local population, to promote mutual relations between Pakistan, the EU and its member states and to enjoy the festivities together and promote hereby connectivity and mutual understanding.

The Czech Republic has been a proud member of the European Union since May 1, 2004.
