Programme entitled The Romantic Oboe consisted of pieces by the Romantic era composers Clara Schumann, Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, Carl Nielsen, Robert Schumann, Camille Saint-Saëns, Gabriel Fauré, and Antonín Dvořák. The concert in Islamabad Marriott Hotel on 31 October was complemented by a projection of photographs documenting the eventful days of the dramatic developments of 1989. Ambassador Tomáš Smetánka recalled the thirtieth anniversary of the end of the Communist Party rule, highlighting the relevance of the past experience of an oppressive regime for the recognition of today's challenges. He introduced the oboist, born in 1989, as a representative of a generation fully enjoying unified Europe and naturally involved in global cooperation: Martin Daněk currently plays with the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra, Ikuko Odai teaches at the Hanns Eisler School of Music in Berlin. The excellent performance by both musicians was highly appreciated and the concert successfully repeated on 2 November at Kinnaird College in Lahore.
