Czech water treatment plant in Lahore hospital

From 3rd February onwards, residents and patients in the vicinity of the Ghurki Trust Teaching Hospital can avail of clean drinking water from the treatment plant installed thanks to a project supported by the Czech Development Cooperation. The unit, named „Triton 500“, has been donated and installed by the Czech company WERO Energy; Bata Pakistan also contributed in the execution of the project.

The source of clean drinking water, executed thanks to the cooperation between the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Pakistan, the two above-mentioned firms and Ghurki Trust Teaching Hospital, has been inaugurated by the Ambassador of the Czech Republic Tomáš Smetánka, Prof. Dr. Amer Aziz, chairman of Ghurki Hospital, Imran Malik, CEO of Bata Pakistan, M. Naeem, COO of Ghurki Hospital and Amir Latif, global sales director of WERO Energy. The installed plant cures up to 500 liters of underground water per hour and its proper functioning is monitored and ensured via an internet connection.

The concrete structure, with numerous water taps and a brass plate engraved with the logos of Czech Development Cooperation, WERO Energy and Bata, has been built in the public outdoor space of the hospital, next to the Emergency unit, through which thousands of visitors pass by daily, including patients with their families. The hospital  is situated in one of the poorest parts of Lahore, treats mostly those who cannot afford paid health care and is funded by charitable donations.

In Pakistan, drinking water is mainly found within plastic bottles, but not in the water supply network. The water treatment plant, supported by the program of small local scale projects under Czech Development Cooperation, is thus of ecological, health and economic significance.
