Czech Presidency of the Council of the EU opened in Istanbul with the Light of Understanding concert

On 30 June 2022, the Consulate General of the Czech Republic in Istanbul organized a unique concert Light of Understanding, which took place in the Cemal Resit Rey concert hall in Istanbul. The concert was attended by 900 guests from the political, religious, diplomatic and public spheres. The concert was conceived not only as a celebration of diversity and intercultural dialogue, but also as a presentation of the Czech Republic on the eve of the opening of CZ PRES in the Council of the EU.
150 artists from different ethnicities and cultures presented themselves on stage, coming together for the first time ever at such an event. The staging of this impressive performance combining art from different directions was taken over by the Slovak artist Péter Györi.
Consul General Jiří Čistecký gave the opening remarks, in which he stressed the importance of intercultural understanding as one of the main principles of European policy and the importance of minorities, which significantly co-shape the character of multinational communities such as Turkey, the EU and the Czech Republic, and which make an essential contribution to their prosperity and enrich their cultural and everyday life.
"We have invited representatives of Alevis, Armenians, Assyrians, Kurds, Greeks, Roma, Sephardim, Sunnis, as well as several Czechs and Slovaks to come together with us and show us how powerful and beautiful it is when people share a common goal," said the Consul General.
The concert received a very positive response from across the spectrum, even considering that an event of this scale and focus has never been held in Istanbul before.
