Jacques Rupnik lectured on Europe at the crossroads

Professor and political scientist Jacques Rupnik gave a lecture to the students of the Diplomatic Academy MFA (junior diplomats). The topic was Europe, where it is heading and how the European project changes.

Professor Rupnik belongs to lecturers who traditionally teach in the general diplomatic training course of the Diplomatic Academy and his lectures are always warmly welcomed by students. This time, he gave a lecture to the junior diplomats on Europe at the crossroads.

The meeting provided an opportunity to introduce the ‘Kandinsky model for Europe’. This is based on dividing lines and concentric circles between member states which illustrates the disintegration tendencies within Europe as well as efforts to deepen the integration. The participants also discussed the questions of Europe’s future course, NATO’s current role, and past as well as present dividing lines between states – East and West, North and South – including the efforts to face these.

The lecture was a part of a series of contributions on Europe and the European Union which enables the junior diplomats to deepen their knowledge of the complex development of Europe. It offered an important opportunity to discuss the role the EU plays in today´s world and the perspectives of its future development.
