The students of the Diplomatic Academy of the MFA completed an internship in Brussels

On 19 to 21 February 2014 the Czech junior diplomats visited Brussels. Here, they became familiar with the functioning of various EU institutions and the permanent delegation of the Czech Republic to NATO.

During a busy internship program the young diplomats had an opportunity to meet with leading Czech representatives in EU institutions, including: Mr. Petr Blížkovský, Director of Rural Development and Food Security Department of the General Secretariat of the Council of the European Union, and Mr. Pavel Bouda, and a member of the Cabinet of European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy, Mr. Štefan Fülle.

When visiting the European Parliament, the Diplomatic Academy participants had the opportunity to talk with Mr. Libor Rouček, who is a member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs.

For the junior diplomats a meeting with young Czechs operating within the EU diplomacy, i.e. in the European External Action Service was also extremely useful.

The Diplomatic Academy students were also very interested in the activities of the Permanent Delegation of the Czech Republic in NATO, where they were welcomed by the Ambassador, Jiri Šedivý. The workers of the political and military sections delegation familiarized the young diplomats with current topics that are being discussed by NATO at the moment and answered their questions about the possibility of expanding NATO and capacity building.

Passing the Brussels internship is part of the theory of one-year cycle of the Diplomatic Academy, which is slowly concluding. Listeners now test their acquired knowledge during the practical part of the diplomatic training, including internships in companies and abroad at embassies of the Czech Republic.
