The Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted the first “Café Iberoamericano” at Czernin Palace

Following the success of informal meetings of German and French speaking diplomats and Czech civil servants, the Diplomatic Academy has organized a similar series of meetings for Spanish and Portuguese speakers. The first “Café Iberoamericano” took place at Czernin Palace on 7 October 2013 and brought together more then thirty participants.

In addition to the traditional “Café francophone” series of informal meetings between French speaking diplomats and Czech civil servants at Czernin Palace, the “Salongespräche” series of similar German-language events began in 2013. Building on this tradition, the “Café Iberoamericano” series was launched on 7 October 2013 to offer an opportunity to meet also for Spanish and Portuguese speakers.

The first “Café Iberoamericano” was opened by the MFA’s territorial department directors, Ms Ivana Hlavsová and Ms Kateřina Lukešová, the former Czech Ambassador to Brazil, Mr Ivan Jančárek, the director of Instituto Cervantes in Prague, Mr Ramiro Villapadierna, and the director of Instituto Camões in Prague, Mr Joaquim J. S. Coelho Ramos. It offered Czech and foreign diplomats and Czech civil servants an opportunity to meet their colleagues in a casual setting, practice their language skills and exchange views on international relations and other political and social topics. Spanish has been taught at the Diplomatic Academy on a long term basis, Portuguese lessons were introduced at the beginning of this academic year, based on the demand of the MFA staff.
