PROFESSOR RAYMOND SANER LECTURED ON ECONOMIC DIPLOMACY IN CONTEMPORARY INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS

 

Raymond Saner, a University of Basel professor and author of several studies on economic diplomacy, lectured together with his wife Lichii Yiu in Czernin Palace to diplomats and government officials. They focused on economic diplomacy in France and Switzerland.

On 10th April 2015, Mr. Raymond Saner, Professor at the University of Basel with his wife Mrs. Lichii Yiu lectured on economic diplomacy in contemporary international relations. Professor Sane spoke about the changing role of the state in a globalized world, the increasing number of actors in international relations along with the difference between the economic and trade diplomacy. He also mentioned the current shift from trade in goods to trade in values, the creation of global value chains and the role of these. Diplomatic science, or specific activities of economic diplomacy were highlighted in the context of France. Lichii Yiu again focused on the formation of monetary policy and economic diplomacy in Switzerland.

Professor Saner and his wife continue to collaborate with the prestigious Netherlands Institute of International Relations, under whose auspices have published numerous studies on the topic of economic diplomacy. Both also teach at various universities around the world on the topic of trade diplomacy and international negotiations.

The lecture was organised by the Department of Education and the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as a part of the economic education initiative of the University of Economics in Prague. In attendance were both Czech and foreign diplomats, as well as students of Economics and the officials of other government institutions.
