The 19th Summer School of European Studies in Telč

After a two-year break the Summer school of European studies returned to Telč. The school is organized by the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for young diplomats from all over the world. This year's 19th year is devoted to the global consequences of the ongoing war in Europe.

This year's Summer School in Telč, entitled "Europe, War and its Aftermath: How Can the Phoenix Be Reborn?", was attended by 25 junior diplomats from Europe, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East and a number of young colleagues from important Czech institutions, such as The Government Office, the Senate, the Chamber of Deputies, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Education or the Czech National Agency for International Education and Research. The summer school focused on exploring the impact of the war and on discussing possible policies to deal with its consequences in crucial areas, namely energy, economy, society but also (geo)politics in general.

In his opening speech on August 8, 2022, the State Secretary Miloslav Stašek introduced the main priorities of the Czech Presidency of the Council of the EU. At the same time, he emphasized the need for quality education of young diplomats and civil servants. "As a result of the ongoing war in Ukraine, Europe is going through fundamental changes. It is through study and long-term quality education that we can better understand them and estimate possible further scenarios of their development. At the same time, it is necessary to maintain internal integrity and constantly promote democratic values and human rights," he said.
