Masaryk Court

Czernin Palace surrounds two squared courts. The larger northern one connects the palace to the garden via staircase.

The court was named after Minister of Foreign Affairs Jan Masaryk who perished on its pavement having fell out of a window of his official apartment on March 10, 1948. The tragical demise of Jan Masaryk is still obscured by unexplained questions. The death occurred in a fortnight after the Communist putsch when the Communist Party took violently the power in Czechoslovakia. It seems to be probable Jan Masaryk was murdered by the Communist Secret Police.
