Personal Information

Martin Stropnický, born December 19, 1956, in Prague. Married.

Education

In 1980, completed studies at the Theatre Faculty of Academy of Performing Arts in Prague and in 1991 at the Diplomatic Academy in Vienna.

Professional and Public Activities

From 1980–1990 worked at the Prague Municipal Theatres and at the Vinohrady Theatre.

From 1990 worked at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, from 1993–1994 as Czech Ambassador to Portugal, in 1994–1997 as Ambassador to Italy and in 1999–2002 as Ambassador to the Holy See.

In 1998, member of the caretaker government as Minister of Culture.

From 2003 to 2012 Artistic Director of the Vinohrady Theatre.

Since 2013, Deputy of the Czech Parliament.

From 2014 to 2017, Defence Minister of the Czech Republic

Language Skills

Speaks English, French and Italian. Passive knowledge of Portuguese, Russian and German.
