The Bulgarian Czechs – inauguration of an exhibition dedicated to the history of the sincere friendship and strong spiritual connection between Czechs and Bulgarians inaugurated by H.E. Tomáš Petříček, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic and H.E. Ekaterina Zakharieva, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Bulgaria, Bulgarian cultural institute, Prague, 9th July, 2020.

The exhibition was inaugurated on the occasion of the visit of H.E. Ekaterina Zakharieva in Prague and on the symbolic eve of the 100th anniversary of establishment of bilateral diplomatic relations between our two countries (30th Sept, 1920. More than 250 years ago, a group of our co-nationals were invited to help lay down the foundations of the Bulgarian state. They fostered good relations and strong bonds between our two nations. While in the Czechia most of people won’t remember today who they were, their names have never been forgotten in Bulgaria. Streets and institutions in Sofia, Plovdiv, Varna are named after them, in recognition of their work. There are many names on the list that contributed to the sociopolitical, economic and cultural life of the reborn, post-Liberation Bulgaria: Konstantin Jireček (Czech historian and later Bulgarian minister of education), Karel Škorpil (archeologist and founder of the Varna Archeological Society), Antonín Kolář (Chief architect of the capital Sofia, reconstruction of Royal Palace), Antonín Novák and Josef Šniter (architects and co-founders of Sea Garden Park in Varna) and many others. The exhibition is accompanied by a remarkable trilingual book of detailed information. The exhibition is a beautiful symbolic gift to celebrations of the 100th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between our two countries. The exhibition is open during next weeks at the Bulgarian Cultural Institute in Prague (Klimentská street).
