Save the date: The Velvet Revolution 30 Years Later: Promises, Legacies & Challenges

A conversation on the thirtieth anniversary of the Velvet Revolution, which led to the collapse of communism in Czechoslovakia, with Pavol Šepelák, Consul General of the Czech Republic in Los Angeles, Václav Bartuška,  Special Envoy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic  for Energy Security, a direct participant of the 17th November demonstration at Národní třída, a leading member of the strike committee and a member of the parliamentary commission for the supervision of the investigation of the events of 17th November, Jiří Krátký, Special Envoy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic for Czechs living abroad, a witness to the Velvet Revolution in Pilsen as a student of the first year of university, Pavlína Moskalykova, screenwriter and director, and others.


Pavol Šepelák, Consul General of the Czech Republic in Los Angeles and guests, will recall the dynamics of the revolution and the subsequent transition to democracy, as well as the legacies of the revolutions of 1989 and contemporary political challenges in the Czech Republic and Central Europe. Moderated by Professor Elizabeth Drummond, Department of History, Loyola Marymount University.
