The conference “Civilians in Multilateral Missions”

Representatives of Czech Ministries shared experiences with their Serbian counterparts in the field of civilian crisis management and deployment of civilian experts abroad

On March 16 and 17 a conference “Civilians in Multilateral Missions” took place under the auspices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The conference is part of a project "Development of the Serbian National Civilian Capabilities for Contributions to Peace Operations and Civilian Crisis Management" funded by Development Cooperation of the Czech Republic and jointly organized by Prague Security Studies Institute and ISAC Fund, a Serbian non-governmental organization.

The conference builds on a seminar held in Serbia in October 2016. The two-day conference was attended by representatives of the European External Action Service, Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Justice, Interior, Defense and the Police Presidium. Serbian partners had an opportunity to learn about the Czech participation in civilian missions directly from representatives of key institutions. Every year the Czech Republic sends dozens of experts to mainly EU and OSCE field missions.

The main objective of the project is to help Serbia create a system to deploy civilian experts to civilian field missions. Existence of such a system is one of the conditions for the integration of Serbia into the EU.
